Sokolov plays Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto No. 3 (DVD5)

Sergei Rachmaninoff
Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30

Grigory Sokolov, piano

Sorry, I am new to Mr. Sokolov. I don't have the conductor info either. My source DVD doesn't provide any info about this recording. I fell in like with Sokolov by listening to his Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 posted by PANOVNIK (http://panovnik.blogspot.com/2011/07/grigory-sokolov-yritemirkanov.html). Thanks, PANOVNIK. He also posted a Sokolov recording of Rach 3 from radio Petersburg. The conductor is Victor Dubrovsky. Not sure if it's the same performance.

  5. There is also a recording of Sokolov performing the Rachmaninov 3rd with the BBC Philharmonic, Yan Pascal Torteler conducting, August 1995....

All performances by Sokolov are unusual and interesting and, therefore, woth listening to!

  9. Though Sokolov's skill is astonishing, I still prefer Horowitz's performance to this one. Sokolov makes me feel this work is extremely hard while Horowitz gives me a feel that this work is not difficult at all. ;-)

  10. Yes, Horowitz was classy pianist. It plays well to this concert! (У Горовица несколько записей этого концерта / In some records that Horowitz concert?). But I like myself Rachmaninoff.
